Thai Saber
General specification
กระบี่ไทย — Thai Saber
The blade runs 29″ to 30″ — significantly longer than anything else in our catalogue — with a curve that is present but not extreme, giving the sword its saber character without sacrificing the control and precision that Thai-style cutting demands.
At 550 – 580 grams for a blade this length, the weight is genuinely surprising. In the hand it feels lighter still — the balance point sits 3″ to 4″ from the guard, keeping the sword responsive and fast despite the extended blade. When it moves, it hits harder than the weight suggests. That gap between what you expect and what you feel is exactly what we were working toward.

The Story
Thailand has its own saber tradition — one that rarely gets discussed alongside the more celebrated dhaab forms, but that produced some genuinely interesting blades. Military and government-issue sabers from the Thai tradition share a common character: longer blades with a pronounced curve, built for mounted use and the kind of committed, sweeping cut that a longer reach and a moving horse make possible. Most of them also share something else — a handguard, usually substantial, that reflects their role as formal issue weapons as much as practical fighting tools.
We had handled a number of these pieces over the years — enough to develop a clear sense of what worked in them and what was carried over from convention rather than function. The curve was right. The length gave the blade a character that shorter dhaab forms simply cannot replicate — a different arc through the cut, a different way the blade moves. But the handguard, for all its historical logic, added weight and bulk in a place that worked against the handling we wanted.
So we removed it. What remained was the essential a long, curved blade in the Thai saber tradition mounted in a handle built the way we build all our handles — braided rope wrapped with natural lacquer, firm in the hand, with a lanyard hole for those who want the extra security.
The result is something that sits between categories in an interesting way. It carries the reach and the sweeping cut of a cavalry saber. It handles with the speed and directness of a Thai dhaab. It is not a historical reproduction — it is our interpretation of what this form could be.
We think it is one of the more unusual pieces we have made. Cool enough that we wanted to make it. Specific enough that we only make it to order.
The Siamese Edge Thai Saber

The blade is forged from SK4 high-carbon steel with differential heat treatment — edge hardened for sharpness and retention while the spine retains the toughness needed to handle the forces a longer blade generates through a full committed cut.
The handle follows our standard custom dhaab construction: braided rope wrap with natural lacquer, giving a grip that is secure, durable, and comfortable through extended use. A lanyard hole is fitted as standard for those who want the option — particularly relevant on a blade this length, where losing the sword through the cut is a real consideration.

There are historical Thai sabers in a similar spirit to this design — longer blades, comparable geometry — so this is not without precedent. But what we have made here is our own interpretation of that form, and we are happy to talk through the details with anyone who wants one built.
