The Story

Not every sword begins in a museum archive or an antique collection. Some begin with a question: what should a working sword — designed for serious practice, built for real cutting — actually look and feel like?

The Tactical Thaisword (TTS) Dhaab began with exactly that question. Kru Tosapon came to us with a clear design intent: a sword built around the style of Dhaab Jao Ram — a style of practice with a full range of technique and highly respected in the Thaisword community. The sword had to meet Kru Tosapon’s expectations on every front: the cutting authority of a wide central-style blade, the responsive handling that corresponds with Jao Ram style, and a weight envelope lighter than almost anything else in our catalogue.

The blade answer came first. A wide central-style profile with a fuller and stamped pattern — geometry that concentrates mass where it matters for impact while keeping the sword alive and responsive through the cut. This is not a blade that relies on weight to do its work. It does its work through edge geometry and blade architecture.

The handle fittings presented the more interesting design challenge. Kru Tosapon wanted the presence and finish of metal fittings — the kind of visual authority that signals a sword built to a standard. But adding conventional brass or bronze fittings would work directly against the weight target. We needed a different solution.

The answer was precision lathe-turned aluminium. Machined to the same tolerances and profile as metal fittings, aluminium delivers the aesthetic of a fully dressed sword — clean lines, substantial presence, a finish that reads as serious — at a fraction of the weight. The result is a sword that looks the part without paying the weight penalty for it. The handle itself is built on a wood core, braided rope wrapped with natural lacquer — firm in the hand, durable under repeated use, and true to the traditional construction methods.

The scabbard follows the same principle: teak wood finished in natural lacquer, with accent rattan wrap that ties the overall presentation together — functional, minimal, and made to last.

The result is a sword Kru Tosapon is proud to put his name to — a moderate-to-powerful cutter that sits lighter in the hand than almost anything we have made, without giving up the cutting performance or handling expected of Jao Ram style.

The Siamese Edge x TTS Dhaab

Our work on this sword was shaped entirely by Kru Tosapon’s brief — understand the practice first, then build the sword around it. Every decision, from blade width to fitting material to scabbard construction, traces back to the requirements of Dhaab Jao Ram and the standard TTS practitioners hold their equipment to.

The blade is forged from SK4 high-carbon steel with differential heat treatment — edge hardened for sharpness and retention while the spine retains enough toughness for sustained cutting practice. The wide profile delivers genuine cutting power; the geometry ensures the sword stays fast and manageable through the technique.

Each blade carries the S maker mark on one side — standard across all Siamese Edge blades produced from late 2025 onward — and on the other, the TTS logo stamp and the individual coding number. Every mark on this blade is deliberate: the maker’s stamp is a statement of origin and accountability; the TTS stamp and number are a record of exactly where this sword sits in the lineage of this collaboration.

At 520 – 540 grams, this is among the lightest swords in the Siamese Edge catalogue for its cutting class — a balance point that required careful coordination between blade geometry, core construction, and the aluminium fittings that made it possible.
