The Story
Some of the most interesting swords in history have no clean origin story. The Thai-Laos Dhaab is one of them.
Based on a rare antique find that sits firmly between the Thai and Lao sword traditions — sharing elements of both without belonging entirely to either — we made the decision to let the blade speak for itself rather than force it into a category it doesn’t quite fit. The exact origin remains uncertain. What is certain is that whoever carried this sword valued one thing above all: speed.
This is the thinnest and lightest sword in the Siamese Edge catalogue. Its profile is deceptively slender — the kind of sword that looks like it might sacrifice cutting power for agility. It does not. In testing, this blade cuts cleanly through tatami mat with a consistency that surprises everyone who picks it up for the first time. The geometry does what heavy blades do through mass, but does it through edge geometry, thin stock, and precise distal taper — letting the blade do the work rather than the weight.
It has become one of our best-selling models, and the reaction from those who handle it is almost always the same: they don’t expect it to perform the way it does. That gap between expectation and reality is exactly what makes this sword worth carrying.
The Siamese Edge Thai-Laos Dhaab
Our Thai-Laos Dhaab is built from close study of the original antique — understood first, then interpreted in modern high-carbon steel without compromising the handling characteristics that make this blade so distinctive.
The blade is forged from SK4 high-carbon steel with differential heat treatment — edge hardened for sharpness and retention while the spine remains tough enough for real cutting. The handle is wrapped in cotton thread with natural lacquer treatment, giving a firm, lightweight grip that keeps the sword responsive through the cut.
