In the courts of old Siam, a sword in full silver dress was not simply a weapon. It was a statement of the highest order \u2014 presented to men of the highest rank, carried by those who served directly at the pleasure of the king, offered as diplomatic gifts between courts, and given in recognition of deeds so exceptional that words alone were not sufficient. The silver sword was the language of kings when ordinary language was not enough.<\/p>\n

This tradition did not belong to wealth alone. It belonged to meaning. A silver-clad sword given by the Thai court to a foreign dignitary carried the full weight of the kingdom behind it. One awarded to a military commander or noble of distinguished service carried his story in its surface \u2014 a record of who he was and what he had done, made permanent in silver by the hands of the finest craftsmen the court could call upon. These were not decorative objects that happened to be swords. They were swords that happened to also be among the most significant objects a person could own.<\/p>\n

The silversmithing tradition of Chiang Mai is one of the oldest and most refined in Southeast Asia. For centuries it served the Lanna royal court \u2014 producing ceremonial vessels, temple offerings, and regalia of a quality that defined the northern Thai aesthetic. The silversmith behind this piece carries that lineage directly, in an unbroken line of training that connects this work to the royal craft traditions of the north. Every surface on this sword was worked by hand \u2014 raised from flat silver sheet through repouss\u00e9 and chasing, one mark at a time, until the silver became something that cannot be produced any other way.<\/p>\n

The \u0e14\u0e32\u0e1a\u0e1b\u0e25\u0e32\u0e22\u0e1a\u0e31\u0e27\u0e2b\u0e25\u0e39\u0e1a\u0e40\u0e07\u0e34\u0e19 \u2014 the Dhaab Plai Bua in full silver dress \u2014 is the highest tier sword we offer. There is only one. It exists at the same level as the great silver-dressed swords in the national museum collections of Thailand \u2014 not as a reproduction of those pieces, but as a continuation of the same tradition, made now, by hands that still carry the knowledge of how this work is done.<\/p>\n

The Silver Work<\/h2>\n

The handle is clad entirely in hand-worked silver over a wood core \u2014 not fitted with cast or stamped components, but formed continuously around the grip so that the silver is the surface you hold. Across its length, raised repouss\u00e9 panels carry figures from the Thai mythological tradition: warriors in ceremonial armour, celestial beings, creatures from the Himaphan forest \u2014 each one worked with a level of detail that reveals more the closer you look. These figures are divided and framed by twisted rope borders in fine silver wire, keeping each register of decoration distinct and the overall composition ordered.<\/p>\n

The pommel cap is engraved in a circular mandala of scrolling foliage and floral forms \u2014 closed and complete, the final statement of a handle that has been given the same attention at every point from collar to end.<\/p>\n

The scabbard is made to match in character without competing for attention. A wood core clad in plain brushed silver \u2014 carrying the curve of the blade cleanly \u2014 with hand-tooled throat and chape fittings in cloud and floral motifs that echo the handle’s vocabulary at a quieter register. Sheathed, this sword reads as a single coherent object. Drawn, the contrast between the worked silver of the handle and the clean steel of the blade is something you feel as much as see.<\/p>\n

The blade is the Dhaab Plai Bua \u2014 the Lotus tip profile \u2014 forged from SK4 high-carbon steel with differential heat treatment and finished to the same standard as everything else we make. The silver changes nothing about how it cuts.<\/p>\n
